How is this achievable without simply outnumbering the opposing side? I can't see it happening when it's 15v15...

The only conceivable way I can see this happening is if you set an amazing time in the first round (3 min or so) and then just swarm the beach on defense, focus firing the hell out of the demolishers.

We did this today and it was actually easier than it sounds. It requires a premade or a group with a decent amount of coordination.
  • Split up into groups of two and group up by the demolishers by the docks on both sides. Ignore the cannons, everyone needs to be on the beach.
  • Destroy the demolishers and all alliance/horde coming off the boats asap.
  • Once you take out the first wave, just stay by the docks and let them come to you from the graveyard. Since they need the docks for seaforium and demolishers, as long as you hold the docks they won't be able to damage the walls

Some tips when attacking and defending docks:

  • It helps to have shamans on both sides for bloodlust when destroying demolishers and taking care of the first wave of alliance/horde.
  • When defending, bring the demolishers down to about 10% so that they can be easily destroyed if someone hops in them. They have a quick respawn time, so destroying them right away isn't helpful.
  • They tend to all rush one side when they res from graveyard, so have a group ready to move from side to side to prevent the other side from being overrun.

We pulled it off first try with this strategy. Now Not Even a Scratch on the otherhand, is one we're still working on :)

This is extremely harder and unfair for the horde. Alliance have a full 10minutes to kill at least one wall.

The concept for this achievement is broken because of the way Strand of the Ancients works. Horde always defends first, so this achievement requires them to defend for 10 minutes without letting a wall be destroyed, no exceptions.

Since Alliance get the first attack, however, if they win in anything less than 10 minutes then they have less time than the Horde to defend their walls. The Alliance might only need to defend for 4 minutes to get this achievement, for example.

Completely unfair to the Horde. Until Blizzard fixes this design flaw, we'll jsut have to tough it out and earn it anyway. For the warchief!

to all the people saying its a reference to DOTA, let me remind you this BG is called "strand of the ancients" and the achievement goes for having a perfect defense, so, defense of the ancients

and i do love to play DOTA, but seeing people calling references to 80s songs and random things that have a name similar to something in the game is just boring

Was well on my way to getting this when all the alliance left the battleground!

Seems so unfair that a hard acihevement like this can get took away as sour children all just leave the battleground.

Defended today for 10 minutes without losing any walls, did it with a half-premade and none of us got the achievement. Is there anyone else who had this achievement bugged? Maybe something that came after 3.1 patch has made horde unable to get this at all?

At this point it's old news, but on April 14/15, 2009, (with the 3.1 patch), Strand of the Ancients was bugged, such that no walls spawned. The Relic does not spawn until the final door is destroyed. After a round of defending, since no walls were destroyed, everyone received this achievement. So if you see people (like me) with it dated April 14/15, don't ask them what group makeup they did, or if they went as an organized raid, they just got lucky with a bug.

i've (along with my pug alliance team of course) accomplished this twice - each time capping the relic within at least 4 min... and then successfully defended the walls along the beach without gaining the achievement. The walls were indeed damaged, as in the tops had crumbled off... but the walls had not been destroyed. Is this the reason I am not gaining the achievement? Does anyone know? Bugged?

Currently the best way to get this achievement is to purposly let the OPPOSING team defend without loosing any wall. It's very easy as horde, just get 3 other peoples with you.

Do not ruin other people battleground if you think you can win though, but if Alliance capture the relic under 3minutes, just have 4 peoples grab the tank and just do nothing (you should warn other player what you are trying to do). You can drop your tanks far underwater to prevent them from beeing killed / picked up by other Horde member.

This isn't 100% reliable but after doing this 4/5 times , we had 2/3 random people out of 15 recieving the achievement each time.

That's close to accurate but here's the REAL scoop currently-

Yes, this achievement is bugged, however there is a workaround.

If you are Horde, there are TWO requirements for this achievement; the regular one and a HIDDEN one. Here they are...

1.) Meet the regular requirements of "Defense of the Ancients". (Be in a match without losing a wall during your defense turn)

2.) Be in a match where the opposing team meets the requirements of "Defense of the Ancients". (Alliance has a match where they defend without losing a wall during their defense turn)

- These matches do not have to be in the same Strand of the Ancients match. So, let's say you form a pre-made to farm the achievement and do it successfully, yet you've never been in a match where the Alliance has successfully done "Defense of the Ancients". You will not get the achievement. However, once you ARE in a match where they complete it, you will get the achievement, even if it's a different Strand of the Ancients match.

So, like others have said, you won't need a full pre-made to get the "losing" requirement. Simply get a good enough amount of people together to insure that your team will lose properly.

Of course, we all hope and pray that this bug is fixed in 3.2, but for right now... This is the way to do it.

I can verify that Lileith and Mikethered above are correct. I've defended the beach without losing a wall MANY times. Like 10 times at least! Never got the achievement.

After reading this, however, I got this achievement yesterday on my mage by letting the ALLIANCE defend the beach!

In response to your questions, gasparr, I don't believe the order matters, and nor does the time frame. As long as you're in a match where you defend the beach at some point in your life AND at some point in your life, the alliance defend the beach, you'll get it.

It seems this has been fixed in patch 3.2, just got this today after entering a BG with 15 Horde vs 8 Alliance. The 8 brave alliance did manage to get green gate to very low HP (1-2 seaforium till destruction) but luckily they didn't, and we achieved this :)

This achievement is easily doable just by pugs in a full 15v15 match. You'll need to be on offense first, however, and you'll need to capture the relic in about 3 minutes. That's the time then that Alliance have to capture it. Holding the beach for 3 minutes is a lot easier than holding it for 10 minutes. In 3 minutes time, you'll basically be able to kill 2 sets of vehicles. The first set of vehicles should be relatively easy to destroy because you can start attacking a few seconds before Alliance get in them. The second set you'll have to just gang up on. Keep an eye on both sides of the beach though ;-)

I came very close to achieving this achievement in that very fashion, but unfortunately, no one stayed on the right side of the beach and with 30 seconds left in the game, blue wall, undefended, went down. With a little more focus on defense on blue side, we would have had it.

That's true. This achievement is incredibly frustrating. I still haven't gotten it, but then again, I only have ~45 Strand wins. I haven't played it nearly as much as other battlegrounds. One of the most difficult parts of this achievement is that it basically requires you to start on offense AND capture the relic incredibly fast.

If you start on offense and can reach the relic in about 3-4 minutes, then you can swarm the docks on defense in the following round, and once you kill everyone and destroy the first set of demolishers, the enemy will spawn up in that small oasis/pond area. They'll have to run all the way back to the docks (where you're waiting for them) just to get back into demolishers (once they respawn). The problem is that there's always one side that's a little low on players, or a little low on DPS, or healers, etc.

Edit: Successfully completed this achievement tonight in a PuG -- full 15 vs 15 game as well. We started on offense, of course, and captured the relic with 5:45 left, giving the opposing team 4:15 to capture the relic. The other time that I came close to this achievement they had 3 minutes left and they destroyed a wall in the last 30 seconds via a rogue demolisher. That almost happened this time as well (green wall got to about half health). All in all, here is my strategy for PuGs:

1. Tell everyone to immediately get to the docks. Skip all guns. You don't need guns.2. Everyone needs to zerg down the demolishers as quickly as possible.3. Once the demolishers are done, CC all targets and burn them down.4. Once the docks are cleared, have ~10 players move to the graveyard.5. As players spawn in the graveyard, burn them down as quickly as possible (they won't all res at the same time at first, and they won't have buffs -- should be relatively easy).6. Watch for stealthers who are out and about. This is why only 10 players should be at the graveyard. You need players calling out incomings for rogue demolishers (and by rogue I mean that demolisher that no one sees sneaking up the back, around all the rocks, and launching fireballs from a distance to destroy the wall).

Since the opposing team is spawning at the graveyard, they won't have access to demolishers or bombs. This is key, because the graveyard is a pretty fair distance away from the docks, which they'll need to run back to every time. It also takes a fairly long time for demolishers to respawn. Try to keep the demos at low health, but don't kill them until an alliance gets in them.

I've played only 100 Strand games to date -- with 52 wins. This is a difficult achievement, but it is definitely not impossible with a PuG.

Edit: I got this achievement on my 100th Strand game. I went 99 games without getting this achievement. I only do PUGs in battlegrounds, and since getting this achievement, I've gotten it twice more.

I'm not sure what the factor here is -- maybe people have much higher item level across the board and so demolishers are more difficult to kill? Starting demolisher has 80k health. Mine has 115k health. That would mean capturing the relic is much easier on a first try -- IE, not losing any demolishers. It's very easy to capture the relic in 2 1/2 - 3 minutes these days. I think also the bot epidemic is fueling this. If the other side has tons and tons of bots, they may be focusing on players instead of demolishers.

For those saying this is impossible in a PuG, I just have this anecdote. I just finished a Strand game via random battleground (I queued for Strand specifically, but this is in 3.3.3 with random battlegrounds). Alliance premade score was 26. Our premade score was 31. With 15 players, that's a pretty low score. Premade score is the likelihood of their being premade groups in the battleground on either side, determined by how many people are from the same realm.

We started on defense first. Some guy says, "Let's not let them break any walls." I've played 146 Strand games. I've gotten this achievement three times prior to this and all were when we were on offense first and captured the relic very quickly. This means we only have to defend the beach for 3-4 minutes.

We actually ended up holding the beach, all the walls intact, for the full 10 minutes. When you're holding the beach for 10 minutes, you really need to watch all combination of things. Kill demolishers, really watch the walls (because in 10 minutes, lots of bombs can be dropped off easily), and watching the GYs.

Got it today for my undead rogue,

How i got it :

We were attacking first,and we all rushed on 1 wall.Then we proceeded to ram through the next wall all up to relic wall. We won the round in 1:30 mins.Which was actually the time that allies had to attack next round. Thus i and some other people proceeded to remind of others of this achievement and that ALL you need to do is destroy tanks and camp their port.

Tanks take about 10-15 sec to respawn,so you need to be on guard ALL times. My team also killed all allies and made them respawn at their GY,locking them from the port,thus locking them from any chance of getting into the tanks.

So,it IS possible to get it with randoms,however those randoms have to be players that WANT to get this achievement and not just mindlessly zerg allies.Luck can also be a factor ,unfortunately for some achievements you just have to be lucky :(

Something to note is that in order to get this achievement easily is that you team needs to attack first and has to do it ASAP. It is possible to get it while defending for 10 mins,however it is too long and people will be more prone to mistakes such as not paying attention or zerging.

Got it yesterday on my 85 warrior (I know, the class doesn't matter, but still possible at 85).

While in the past we took the relic even in like 1 min 20 and failed the achievement, this time we were slower, like 3 minutes.

Anyway, people were particularly focusing in doing the achievement and actually damaged vehicles which were not moving till 50-30k, so that if an ally had entered them we could've 1-2 shotted the vehicle.

In the last seconds, as someone didn't listen and destroyed the 2 badly damaged vehicles at the blue gate, and they respawned, we really risked to lose the blue gate, as most of us were at green, but managed to slow the demo which could reach the gate with hurl boulder, and we made it just a few seconds before the portal would've been destroyed.

Things necessary for this achievement:

1) You need to attack first, to shorten the time you'll have to defend as much as possible.

2) You will need to have a very strong vs a very weak group, unless there's not such an unbalancement it will be just impossible to resist from the destruction of a wall, even just for 2 mins.

3) If you can, damaging very badly but not destroying the just spawned demos would be good, as they respawn in 15 seconds, and not destroying them just leaves the opposite team with useless vehicles that, if they step inside, get one-shotted.

Good luck, got this around as 35th victory, all done at level 85, but one.

Got this today. No premade. Just a great horde team vs a poor ally team.

We attacked first and got the relic in about 4 1/2 minutes. That's one of the keys to this achievement - attacking first and fast. The faster you complete your assault for the relic, the less time you need to defend to get the achievement.

When it came to our defence, we just made sure our team was positioned in a way that maximised our defence, i.e. focusing on key areas like the docks, the two walls, and later on, the gy. We dps'ed demos down to 5-10%, so that anyone thinking of using one, would have a dead demo almost immediately. As time went by, we dominated them enough to have most of them trapped at the beach graveyard. If I remember correctly, they didn't have any rogues or druids, so their ability to sneak around us was a non-issue.

In short, this achievement is all about circumstances. Good team attacking first against a bad team, making sure everyone communicates, works as a team, and no one falls asleep during the defence.
